Altered Course [2023] - SOLD
36x48 mixed media on 1 5/8” cradled birch panel with whitewashed wood edges
signed and dated on the back - wax sealed and ready to hang
This mixed media painting was built up using many layers of plaster, collage, and acrylic paint + glazes. The colorful collage bits are comprised of sand, sea and sky photos from our November Costa Rica escape, mainly taken during nightly sunset beach walks along beautiful Playa Grande beach. The graphic masking overlay, loosely based upon a favorite mid-century textile pattern, evolved as I sketched into shapes that remind me of nautical flags. We’re sailors, and sailing and sunsets naturally go hand in hand (so I went with it). A flag with a single filled circle in the middle signifies that you’re altering course (port-side). It seems to me that life is really just a sequence of course alterations, isn’t it?
