Multiple layers of acrylic, plaster and collage are overlaid by plaster and masking - exploring shape and symbol. I am intrigued by symbols, the history and meaning of them. I’ve gone down many a rabbit hole researching the use of symbols over time, in architecture, art and religion. Specific shapes can hold meaning within their cultural context, combinations of shapes can convey alternative meanings. And why are we drawn to certain shapes or combinations of shapes? In the final graphic masking of this painting I let loose with some of these symbols, shapes and combinations, just to see how they might ultimately engage with each other. I’m honestly not certain what they mean (I just like them), but do believe that they’re in conversation with each other - a dialogue of sorts.
