Interrupted [2022] - SOLD
18x36 mixed media on 1 5/8” cradled birch panel with whitewashed wood edges
signed and dated on the back - wax sealed and ready to hang
This mixed media painting was built up using many layers of plaster, collage, and acrylic paint + glazes. The collage layers are comprised from pages of old books, papers and stamps I inherited from a dear friend who passed away unexpectedly in 2021, as well as maps of places she lived and visited frequently, and hand-painted papers. In the final layers, I used scans of old letters and documents of hers too valuable to destroy - these were transferred using acrylic medium. All ephemera has been transformed and distressed by bold marks cut into thick clear mediums and filled with pearlescent plaster. The final layer of brushed midnight blue plaster has half-sphere cut outs that highlight the textural marks representing the half-finished crossword puzzle left on her kitchen counter as she discretely had a neighbor check her into hospice, exiting this world on her own terms: protecting her loved ones and with her self respect intact.
